Upland was founded in 2023 by Aimee Pratt and Steve Bychowski. The residency is in beautiful Putney, Vermont, two miles up a dirt road, on the side of Putney Mountain. Upland is a quiet, serene, and hopefully inspiring retreat to explore new creative ideas.

The residency program is housed within a single barn structure that includes a furnished living space and a variety of studios and workspaces. Currently, Upland is a seasonal program that hosts artists from June through October. Residencies are typically two weeks to a month in length, but other durations can be considered.

Upland accepts artists working in all media but is best suited for those working in 2D visual media or small sculpture that can be created by hand tools. Individual artists or artist couples interested in having concurrent residencies are welcome to apply. Residencies are solo (unless you apply as a couple), self-directed, and meant give artists an open space to try new ideas. The informal nature of the program allows us to accept applications on a rolling basis, so please reach out if you have any questions or fill out the online form if you are interested in applying.
